I have been in the publishing industry since 1997 when I began my career in the Lifestyle department of a Louisiana newspaper. I advanced to Managing Editor in 2000 at a paper in Indiana. Upon the birth of my first child, I didn't want to commute so I landed a job at the local paper as a Graphic Designer in Advertising - winning my first first-place ad design award from the Indiana Press Association.

After moving to the Chicago area, I worked as Advertising Graphics Manager at the Northwest Herald/Shaw Media until shifting gears again in 2005 to join the Marketing Department there. In that role, I designed House Ads and Brand Campaigns as well as B2C pieces such as Direct Mail, Third-party Inserts, Rack Cards, Billboards and more.

As our department thinned, I evolved into a role of planning, leading and executing a number of successful events we hosted as a company. Including a Community Garage Sale that brought in $25,000 in new revenue, as well as many Taste of Home Cooking shows, one of which drew our largest crowd of 1,000 attendees and a profit of $20,000.

Around this same time period Shaw Media began a Niche Publication called McHenry County Magazine. After the first edition, the editor found employment elsewhere and I was asked to step in and take over the design duties. We expanded later to three monthly magazines for which I did award-winning design. Eventually we produced two and I became both editor and designer for these.

​

In 2015 Shaw Media launched a Chamber Guide initiative for which I was chosen to be the designer. This included the chambers' yearly guides as well as their quarterly newsletters. That first year our team (the sales rep and myself) generated more than $150,000 of new revenue, as well as award-winning guides. This successful venture was in addition to my magazine design duties.

I am a versatile worker and will accept any challenge given to me. I can freely jump between an "editor" hat and a "designer" hat ... sometimes wearing both!
